The Story of Rave: An Introduction to Yr Interface.
Yr InterFace is an online history book for the websites we've lost, the screennames we cringe to remember, and the internet we saw.
Before there was LiveJournal or social networks, young people were writing online. The medium was there, it was new, and we saw it and decided to make something out of it. Learning HTML, joining Geocities, and coming up with a suitable melodramatic alias was all part of being a teenager with internet access.
All the websites we made as teenagers--the brightly colored, barely readable diaries, the fountains of oversharing before there were blogs, all we created before the year 2000--are mostly lost now in business deals and busted bubbles. Here is the place to bring them back, to tell their stories.
Before we could scan pictures online, we still made an InterFace. We made communities. We're the reason Diaryland and MySpace were founded. Many of us are still creating.
